Economy

Platypus SMP has a player-driven economy powered by EssentialsX and Vault. You can earn money, trade with other players, and spend it on items, town upkeep, and more.

Getting Started with Money​

When you first join, run /kit starter to get some starting gear. You begin with a small balance - check it with /balance or /bal.

Earning Money​

There are several ways to make money on Platypus SMP:

  • Sell items to other players via /shop or player shops
  • Complete trades - buy low, sell high in the player market
  • Set up a shop in a town shop plot and sell your goods passively
  • Trading with other players directly using /pay

Economy Commands​

The Server Shop​

The /shop command opens the server shop where you can buy and sell a range of items. This is a reliable way to turn your gathered resources into cash.

Tips for using the shop:

  • Sell bulk resources (stone, wood, crops) for steady income
  • Buy materials that are hard to farm efficiently
  • Prices are fixed - the player market may offer better rates for rare items

Player Shops​

Players can set up their own shops inside town shop plots. This lets you sell items to other players at prices you set.

To set up a shop:

  1. Get a shop plot in a town (ask the mayor or claim one)
  2. Place a chest and a sign above it
  3. Format the sign: 
    [Line 1] Quantity
    [Line 2] Buy price : Sell price
    [Line 3] Item name
  4. Players right-click the sign to buy, shift right-click to sell

Town & Nation Economy​

Your town has its own bank. Mayors use it to pay for:

  • Claiming new chunks (costs money per chunk)
  • Daily upkeep (towns are charged automatically to keep running)

Keep your town bank funded or the town may lose chunks or fall.

/t deposit <amount>    - Deposit money into your town bank
/t withdraw <amount>   - Withdraw from your town bank (mayor only)
/t balance             - Check your town's bank balance

Tips​

  • /baltop is a great way to see who the wealthy players are and where the market is active
  • Always confirm the amount before using /pay - transactions cannot be undone
  • Set up passive income by creating a player shop in a busy town
  • Donate to your town bank regularly to keep it healthy
