Bedrock Support
Platypus SMP supports Bedrock Edition players on all platforms - Windows, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. This is powered by Geyser and Floodgate, which act as a bridge between the Java server and Bedrock clients.
How to Connect (Bedrock)
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Server Address | play.platypussmp.net |
| Port | 25584 |
See the full step-by-step instructions on the How to Join page.
What Is Geyser?
Geyser is a plugin that translates the Bedrock Edition network protocol into Java Edition so Bedrock players can connect to a Java server. It handles the conversion of:
- Block and item data between editions
- Inventory and UI differences
- Entity and mob behavior
You don't need to do anything special - just connect with your Bedrock client and Geyser handles the rest automatically.
What Is Floodgate?
Floodgate works alongside Geyser to allow Bedrock players to authenticate using their Xbox account instead of requiring a Java Minecraft account. This means:
- Xbox/PlayStation/Switch/iOS/Android players can join without owning Java Edition
- Your Bedrock gamertag is used as your in-game name (prefixed with a
.to distinguish you from Java players) - Your progress, town membership, and inventory are saved just like any Java player
Differences for Bedrock Players
While Geyser does an excellent job of bridging the two editions, there are some limitations to be aware of:
| Feature | Notes |
|---|---|
| Controls | Bedrock controls apply - touch, controller, or keyboard depending on your device |
| Menus & GUIs | Some plugin GUIs may appear differently on Bedrock - they are automatically converted |
| Texture packs | Java server resource packs are not applied to Bedrock clients |
| Some commands | A small number of Java-only commands may behave differently |
| Chat | Chat works normally across both editions |
Username
Bedrock players joining via Floodgate will have a . (dot) prefix before their username in-game. For example, if your Xbox gamertag is CoolPlayer, your in-game name will appear as .CoolPlayer.
This helps the server and other players identify which edition you're on.
Tips for Bedrock Players
- Use the touch/controller-friendly controls your device supports - no need for a keyboard
- If you experience inventory or menu issues, try closing and reopening the menu
- Your data is linked to your Bedrock account - switching devices is fine as long as you use the same account
- The live map works in any mobile browser - great for Bedrock players on phones or tablets
