Combat & CombatTag

Platypus SMP uses CombatTag to prevent combat logging - disconnecting from the server during a fight to avoid dying.

What Is CombatTag?

When you engage in PvP with another player, you become combat-tagged. If you log out while tagged:

⚠️ You are immediately killed and your items drop where you disconnected.

There is no escape. Logging out during a fight is treated the same as dying in combat.

You hit or are hit by another player → you are now combat-tagged
A countdown timer appears on your screen showing how long the tag lasts (typically 10–20 seconds)
Every time damage is exchanged, the timer resets
When the timer fully expires with no combat, you are safe to log out
If you disconnect before the timer expires → you die, your inventory drops

/ct     - Check whether you are currently combat-tagged and how many seconds remain

Always run /ct before logging out if you've been in a fight. Wait until you receive a message confirming you are no longer tagged.

While combat-tagged, certain actions may be restricted to prevent abuse:

CombatTag enforces combat logging automatically, but PvP on the server still follows the rules:

PvP requires consent from all parties - you cannot randomly attack players
Arena plots inside towns are designated PvP zones where attacks are always permitted
Combat logging is a bannable offense; CombatTag enforces it automatically

Never log out in a dangerous area if you've recently fought - check /ct first
Wait at a safe spot (your claimed plot, a house, underground) until your combat tag expires
If you're losing a fight, surviving until the timer runs out is better than logging out and dying anyway
Keep your valuables in an ender chest or chest at home so you don't lose them in a fight
